Candidates' Conference
From 2007, candidates working towards the President's Badge may attend a Candidates' Conference at the start of the session in which they are eligible to work towards the Award (or towards the end of the previous session).  At the Conference, the programme of work and expected standards may be discussed with the Advanced Awards Adviser.  Candidates' should discuss the options with their Captain prior to attening the conference. Candidates may attend any of the Conferences run by each of the battalions in the district.  Contact your adviser for dates.

You should discuss the requirements with your Captain and Adviser.  Once agreed, you should notify your Captain and Adviser of the planned activity and any subsequent changes to your plans.  Your Advisor will retain a copy of your Action Plan.

Some guidelines for the President's Badge can be found below, but for specific queries please contact your Adviser.  Remember that your Adviser is there to assist and give advice - but there is little he can do if you leave things too late!  If you have any problems / questions, ask for assistance right away.

Once you're under way, you may find the more detailed information on this site useful.

Initial Guidelines
  • If planning to undertake the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award concurrently with the President's Badge, you must purchase the starter pack / record book and register for that award as soon as possible - prior to commencing any qualifying work.  These can be ordered at the Candidates' Conference upon payment of the appropriate fee (£11 for Bronze & Silver, £16.50 for Gold), or sourced directly from the ELD Battalion Shop, or BB Supplies.
  • Log sheets should be kept for all work (additional sheets are available on the Forms page).
  • Practical Service may be carried out within the Church, your own Company - or in another Company (with benefits to both Companies).  A briefing, detailing what service will be undertaken, what is required of you and who will supervise you should be arranged by your Captain or Awards Supervisor.
  • With a little fore-thought, this can count towards the Service Section of the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award.
  • Bronze Award holders need not complete this section.
  • You must complete at least 30 topics from the Discover Programme, gaining all 3 awards.
  • You must also complete a Christian Faith Development Course.  This may be run by the Church, Company or Battalion.
  • Your Activity-Based Residential Event could be an Expedition.  Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award Holders need not complete this section.
  • Expeditions should be to the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze standard, and require appropriate instruction and preparitory work (which should be logged).  A 'practice' expedition is mandatory for DEA and should also be logged.
  • The expedition requires assessment by a qualified assessor and a full log, endorsed by the assessor and including route cards should be submitted.  Candidates are reminded that the expedition must have an objective which should also be documented.   Blank route cards are available on the Forms page.
  • The Battalion-run Teamwork skills experience will in all likelihood only run once per session.  Make sure your Captain enrolls you on this.
  • Candidates may attend these events in other Battalions
