Completion Course

Wherever possible, Candidates should attend the Completion Course organised in their own area.

Where this is not convenient, you may attend a course outwith your own area. Permission to do so must be obtained from your own Advisor, and Area Queen's Badge Organiser / Coördinator, who holds your records. Organisers / Coördinators have a pro-forma for this purpose and the completed pro-forma should accompany the Record Book when registering for the course.

Preparation by the Candidate

Not less that twelve months after registration:

  • Ensure all sections of the book have been completed to an appropriate standard.  A checklist is included at the back of the Record Book for this purpose.

  • Ask your Captain to complete the Company Captain’s Report.

  • Pass the completed book to your Adviser for endorsement. The Adviser may question the standard of any section of the book and request further work from the candidate before signing.

  • Pass the book to the Completion Course Organiser as advised in the course joining instructions.
NB In ELA, Candidated will submit hteir books to their Adviser as detailed above.  For Candidates attending an ELA Course, the Adviser will pass the Record Book directly to the appropriate Course Tutor.

A selection of Record Books may be retained after the Course. This is for Quality Assurance checks by Scottish Headquarters and does not impede the award of the Queen’s Badge to the candidate. The blue Queen's Badge Application form should be removed from the book and signed by the organiser to allow application to be made for the Badge.

East Lowland Area will normally run one Completion Course annually. Captains will be notified of the Completion Course details in the Autum, and should submit a registration form to the Adviser for each Candidate who will be attending, as soon as possible. Record Books, Biography and Payment should be in the hands of the Adviser by the Closing Date (normally 5-6 weeks prior to the course). The adviser will then check the Record Book and notify the Candidate of any additional work required, before passing it to his Course Tutor for assessment  All work must be completed by the date of the Completion Course. Late registrations / books / payment will attract an additional fee.

The Queen's Badge Coördinator will send joining instructions for the course directly to the Candidates. Contact your Advisor if these have not been received 1 week before the course.

The next Completion Course will take place at Carronvale House, Larbert over the weekend of 18th - 20th April 2008.  Check out last year's Programme.

ELA Completion Course 2006

East Lowland Area runs one Completion Course at Carronvale each year.  The 2006 course was held over the weekend of 21st - 23rd April 2006.

Thirty Seven young men from 8 Battalions across Scotland joined together for an enjoyable and interesting weekend, where they were set a number of challenges and learned some new skills.  Many new friendships were formed, and the "Adopt a Borders Boy" scheme meant that even those from large groups were able to take a full and active part in activities - and Boys from the West were even able to work through the language barrier and by the end of the weekend were conversing happily with those from ELA.  The chaplain got a hurl on Iain's trike (and still hasn't come down!),  Don't be at all surprised if he turns up at the presentation ceremony wearing a leather jacket with his kilt!!  The wee boy at the front was found not to meet the current age requirements for Queen's Badge and may be required to attend a later course.
