This is a prestigious event designed to officially recognise and celebrate the achievements of all the Young Men in our Area gaining Advanced Awards this session. | Advanced Awards Certificate Presentation 2004 - 2005 (Wed 01-Jun-2005) |
This year, the annual presentation of Queen's Badge Certificates took place on the evening of Wednesday 1st June 2005 in old Parish and St. Pauls Church, Galashiels, hosted by Scottish Border Battalion. For the first time this year, we arranged to present Duke of Edinburgh's Award Certificates, and invited all those who have gained Silver and Gold DEA in East Lowland Area this session to join with the Queen's Men for the parade and presentation.
The Guest of Honour, Sheriff T. A. K. Drummond, QC, observed a march past of the parade, then proceeded to inspect the ranks outside the Church, during which time the pipe band that had led the parade continued to play. Many parents and friends watched this prior to taking their seats in the Church to commence the Ceremony at around 8.00pm.
The presentation, commenced with a short service, led by our Chaplain, Mr David Todd, with praise led by musicians from Kirkliston Parish Church. Sheriff Drummond then addressed the Boys, congratulating them on their achievements. After a short closing service, the assembled Queen's Man, guests, parents and Officers retired for refreshments in the hall. An official Photographer was on hand to take a group and then individual/family photographs after the Ceremony.
This Prestigious event brought together the Queens Men from all three of our Battalions, and QB Candidates from further afield that attended our Completion Course - and for the first time, Boys who had gained Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Award through the Boys' Brigade in East Lowland Area. The Ceremony gives formal recognition of each young man's achievement, having already been presented with their individual Queens Badge / D of E Award at company level. Members of the three Battalion Executives, Company Captains, Chaplains, Brigade Staff and other VIPs received invitation to this special event, and many were present; but as always, the emphasis was on the work of the Boys, who took "centre stage".
| Queen's Badge Certificate Presentation 2003 - 2004 (Sun 16-May-2004) |
Each year, the Area organises a formal presentation of Queen's Badge Certificates on the evening of the first Wednesday in June.
At the request of ELD Battalion, the 2004 presentation was re-scheduled for Sunday the 16th May 2004 and took place at the Palace of Holyrood House in Edinburgh. Beautiful weather and pleasant surroundings led to a most enjoyable afternoon by all who attended. The presentation, which was shorter than usual by virtue of there being very few Queen's Men, and being outside was the centre-piece of ELD Battalion's day at Holyrood. The Right Hon Sir David Steel presented the awards, watched by the Royal Purse-Bearer.

The 2003 presentation was hosted Edinburgh Leith & District Battalion. Due to inclement weather, the proposed parade was abandoned. The weather then cleared and it was decided to parade a short distance along George Street to St Andrew's & St George's Church, where Queen's Men were inspected by the guest of honour.
A short service was lead by David Todd, Course Chaplain in the Church, after which the Certificates were presented. A buffet tea was provided by the Battalion afterwards.

Twenty Nine Queen's men assembled in the drizzle at Linlithgow Palace and paraded behind Linlithgow Reed Band and the Colour Party of 5th Livingston to St Ninian's Craigmailen Church where the Queen's Men were inspected by the guest of honour, Bristow Muldoon MSP.
A short service was lead by Rev John McKinnon in the Church, after which the Certificates were presented. A buffet tea was provided by the Battalion afterwards.
Despite inclement weather, a good time of fellowship was enjoyed by all, and thanks are due to West Lothian Battalion.
