Integrating Queen's Badge with Duke of Edinburgh's Silver Award

The regulations for the Queen's Badge and Silver DofE Award are so similar that, with some fore-thought and a little extra work, both awards can be worked on simultaneously, and gained together.  This is an option often overlooked by Candidates.  It should also be noted that where time constraints apply, one award may be gained before the other and the remaining sections worked on afterwards.  The regulations may be summarised by the following tables.

NB: This page relates to the pre-2008 Queen's Badge Regulations (Red Folder).  Comparison with current regulations may be found here.

Notes

  1. All Queen's Badge Company Service or Service outwith the Company and Church are acceptable for the Silver DEA Service Section.  The converse is not true.  Candidates working for both awards should adhere to Queen's Badge Regulations for these sections.  Only one is required for DEA - both are required for QB.

  2. Skills / Physical / Expedition - All three are required for DEA.  Only one is required for QB - if this is Skills or Physical, it should be the longer section).  Candidates working towards both awards should adhere to DEA Regulations for these sections.

  3. Leadership Training is required for QB.  This should ideally be done as early as possible so that the knowledge / skills gained may be applied in the Company.  Company Service must entail Leadership.

  4. Company Service may be done in another Company.

  5. Candidates Questions (Queen's Badge) are not trivial, require some research, and should be undertaken as early as possible.

  6. Queen's Badge Completion Course is mandatory, and should be booked in Dec / Jan.  All QB work should be complete by the date of the course - but Record Books should be complete and submitted 6 weeks in advance (this is the date you should work to to have all reports / questions written up).
