Badminton

What is it?
Badminton is a fun, recreational or competitive sport, which tests the use of bat/ball co-ordination. It is a game which is played by two or four people with rackets and shuttle cocks, and is played over a mid-way net on a court. This game is usually played indoors.

Safety Message
Participants should receive appropriate training and instruction from a qualified coach/instructor, before they commence the activity. All equipment should be checked for safety before use.

Ideas/Aims
The following list contains suggested points, which you might like to consider when undertaking this activity:
• What are the rules of the sport?
• Try keeping score for other players.
• Learn how to safely set up the court before play begins.
• Learn how to play the game if you are a novice, or improve on your skills if you have played a lot of badminton before.
• Try playing doubles - does this make the game easier or harder?
• Improve your performance by playing with players of different abilities.
• Learn more tactical moves/shots in the game, in order to play it effectively.
• Aim for a national governing body award.

Review/Assessment
The assessor should ensure that the participant understands the rules of the game, and the participant should show improvement in scores recorded over the required period of time.
