Baseball

What is it?
Baseball is a team game, which requires the use of a bat and ball. Players hit the ball which is bowled to them, and run to various bases spread around the pitch. Baseball is a big professional game played in the United States of America.

Safety Message
Participants should receive appropriate training/instruction before taking part in the game. They should have a sound understanding of how to use the equipment, and should always wear appropriate clothing.

Ideas/Aims
You might like to undertake some of the following when doing this activity:
• What are the safety rules for baseball if any?
• What special equipment/clothing is necessary to play the game safely?
• Try to keep score for a game - did you get it right?
• Attain a reasonable proficiency in the basic skills of baseball, in order to participate in a game.
• Show knowledge of the care and maintenance of the equipment.
• Compete in appropriate club competitions.
• Develop an appreciation of tactics and positioning play.

Review/Assessment
Participants should show a sound knowledge of the rules of the game and any safety precautions which should be taken when playing. They should demonstrate to the assessor their competence in playing the game, and their improvement over the required period.
