Biking
Grade I
Awarded to Boys who regularly attend a course of
instruction and can demonstrate a practical ability and knowledge of the
following:
- Know the history of
the Mountain Bike and major components and costs.
- Be aware of all the
safety requirements, including pre-ride checks when using a mountain bike.
- Know the basic
maintenance procedures for mountain bikes.
- Understand the basic
riding techniques necessary and know how to undertake emergency repairs.
- Be aware of the
different areas mountain bikes are allowed to use.
Grade II
Awarded to Boys who hold Grade I, gained in a
previous session, and who have attended a course of instruction and can
demonstrate a practical ability and knowledge of the following:
- Know the code of
conduct for mountain biking and the legal cycle routes.
- Know the working of
the gears and steering system.
- Be able to carry out
the following manoeuvres uphill & downhill:
wheelies, bunny hopping and jumping.
- Be able to complete
an obstacle course and play cycle unihoc.
Grade III
Awarded to Boys who hold Grade II,
gained in a previous session, and who have attended a course of instruction and
can demonstrate a practical ability and knowledge of the following:
- Know how to fully
maintain a mountain bike.
- Be able to ride over
varying terrain in different conditions (eg mud, sand, ice, snow),
- Know how to prepare
and undertake a cycling expedition including route planning, equipment and
first aid provision.
- Know how to
physically prepare and train for comprehensive mountain biking.
