Croquet

What is it?
Croquet is a game available to and enjoyed by people of all ages and both genders. It is a healthy, outdoor game of skill, which does not depend on physical size or strength. Mixed sex competition is normal in the sport, and an effective handicap system allows competition between all levels.

Safety Message
Safety is not a significant issue with croquet. The sport is accessible to, and enjoyed by many young people and adults.

Ideas/Aims
• Link with a club or group of people who have played croquet to learn the basic techniques.
• Start to play with the simple variations of the game.
• Join in the coaching sessions available at a club.
• Start to play with different players at different levels, using the handicap system.
• Practice to eliminate weakness.
• Enjoy yourself!

Review/Assessment
Each new player at a club receives a handicap, based on a national system. It is an excellent basis for competition between players of different abilities and an ideal measure of the progress made by an individual.
