Cross Country Running
What
is it?
This is an outdoor event, which promotes stamina and flexibility, due to the
irregular nature of the terrain, and can be either timed or involve running
a course.
Safety
Message
Participants should ensure that they wear the appropriate clothing for the
event, and that they warm up before starting to run.
Ideas/Aims
Develop knowledge of the different types
of shoes available for this sport, and the advantages of different types.
Attain reasonable proficiency in the basic
skills of running cross country.
Improve on your personal best time.
Compete in appropriate club competitions.
Try running different courses, to develop
your skills.
Be selected to run in a team, for your
school, County etc.
Attain a national governing body standard.
Review/Assessment
Participants should demonstrate to the assessor how they have improved over
the required period of time, and should show evidence of improved times etc.
They should discuss the importance of warming up before starting to run.
