Football    

What is it?
Football is a team sport, which has both a professional and amateur status. It is played in teams of 11 people, with one person in goal, and the others spread out on the field. It is a game which tests stamina and team spirit.

Safety Message
Participants should warm up properly before playing the game, and cool down after it.

Ideas/Aims
• Have a sound knowledge of the rules of football.
• Attain a reasonable proficiency in the basic skills of the game, in order to participate and compete in a serious game.
• Show knowledge of the care and maintenance of equipment.
• Compete in appropriate club competitions.
• Show skills and an improvement in standard of play.
• Be selected and play in a team, which has proper fixtures.
• Develop an appreciation of tactics and positioning play.
• Research the history of the game, and the countries which it is played in.

Review/Assessment
Participants should show the assessor what skills they have developed while playing football, and what tactical moves they have learnt. Participants should know how to warm up and cool down before and after the game, in order to avoid injury as much as possible.
