Modern Pentathlon
What
is it?
Modern Pentathlon is an Olympic sport for men and women, the five elements of
whichare running, swimming, shooting (177 Air Pistol), Fencing and Riding.
Safety
Message
Correct training from suitable, qualified instructors is of utmost importance
especially in the shooting and fencing elements of the sport. Correct,
suitable protective clothing is also important in the fencing and riding
elements. In competition, points can be deducted for unsuitable dress.
U.I.M.P. (International Governing Body for Pentathlon) rules must be complied
with.

Aims
In order to pursue this discipline you should join a recognised club whichs
pecialises in each activity. In addition you should:
Be
aware of the aims of the Modern Pentathlon Association of Great Britain.
Learn
the rules of each sport and of the overall discipline of Pentathlon.
Know
the distances for your class and have an idea how that time relates topoints.
Learn
how to care and maintain the equipment.
Compete
in club and regional Biathlon and Triathlon competitions.
Review/
Assessment
Participants should show a sound knowledge of the rules of the sport and any
safety precautions, which should be taken when playing. The Assessor
should see any improvement in performance over the required time.
