Netball

What is it?
Netball is a team game, which can be played indoors or outdoors, on a court. The aim of the game is to score points by shooting goals (shooting the ball from the hands, into a net, which is suspended on a pole). There are various positions on a netball court - defending and attacking positions, some of which are dedicated to scoring goals.

Participants should receive appropriate coaching to play the game.

Ideas/Aims
• Participants starting to play this game should: Have a sound knowledge of the rules and laws of the game.
• Attain a reasonable proficiency in the basic skills of netball, in order to participate and compete in a serious game.
• Compete in appropriate school/club leagues.
• Show skills and an improvement in your standard of play.
• Try playing in different positions on the court until the appropriate one is found.
• Develop and appreciation of tactics and positioning play.
• Learn how to keep score of the game.
• Be selected to play in a team, which has proper fixtures.

Review/Assessment
Participants should demonstrate to the assessor that they know the rules of the game, and if they have entered fixtures, they should discuss the results of the games played. The participant should discuss with the assessor why they think they are suited to play that position.
