Octopush
What
is it?
Octopushing is underwater hockey, and the object of the game is to move the
'squid' along the bottom of the pool, with the aid of a 'pusher' against the
opposing team, so as to score a goal by touching the end of the pool. Each
team is composed of eight players, of whom no more than six are permitted
to be in the water at any one time.
Safety
Message
Participants should be able to swim competently before taking part in this
activity. They should receive adequate training in the safe use of equipment,
and should always wear appropriate clothing.
Ideas/Aims
In addition to taking part in this sport you should also:
Learn the laws of the game.
Attain a reasonable proficiency in the
basic skills in order to participate and compete in a serious game.
Show knowledge of the care and maintenance
of equipment.
Compete in appropriate club competitions.
Show skills and an improvement in standard
of play.
Develop an appreciation of tactics and
positioning play.
Be selected to play in a team, which has
proper fixtures.
Be able to keep score of the game.
Review/Assessment
Participants should discuss with the assessor their progress,why they enjoy
playing the game, and why they are suited to playing that position. They should
discuss the tactics of the game, and the laws, and if the participant has
played in any fixtures, then they should discuss the results.
