What
is it?
This is a boule style game, where the aim is to get the ball as close as possible
to the jack.

Participants should receive appropriate training in the safe use of equipment.

In addition to taking part in Pétanque you should also:
Learn about the origins of the game of
Pétanque.
Understand the rules associated with the
game.
Understand how the game is organised.
Understand and demonstrate the different
tactics required by both the pointer and the shooter in a game of Pétanque.
Demonstrate a good understanding of the
scoring system.
Understand what is meant by the terms:

Demonstrate the correct method of throwing
a boule, showing an ability to apply backspin, left and right sidespin.
Demonstrate the correct method of shooting
in Pétanque.

Understand the rules associated with throwing
out the jack.
Compete in at least ten Pétanque
games, keeping a record of your score and show improvement.
Review/Assessment
Participants should show the assessor that they know the rules of the game,
and that they understand the care and use of the equipment that they need
for the game. They should demonstrate that they know how to perform the above
moves, and the benefits of doing so. Progress made should also be reviewed
against the targets set.
