It is a team game, (15 a side) which is played
with a rugby ball. Points are scored by teams, either by scoring tries, or
kicking the ball over the goal posts.
Participants should be given appropriate coaching
before commencing this activity, and should have the necessary clothing for the
game.

Understand the rules of Rugby Union.

Learn about the different positions played on the pitch, and
what each position means to the overall team.
·
Learn about the scoring system for Rugby Union, and the tactics
of the game.
·
Play the game to determine which position you are best suited
to.
·
Try some different playing positions on the team, and develop
experience playing in them.
·
Learn about how to throw in balls from the line out, to the
advantage of your team.
·
Understand how scrums fit into the game, and how they are
created.
·
Know about the rules for making replacements in the team, and
the tactical reasons for doing so.
·
Try developing your skills in kicking the ball over the goal
posts, to score points for your team.
·
Take part in team practises between games, to improve your
skills.
·
Learn about the tactics involved in scoring tries.
The participant should show the assessor what
they have learnt about the rules and tactics of the game. They should demonstrate which position they
play in, and how they can play in different positions if required to do so. The
assessor may be invited to a match which is being played against a rival team,
to watch the participant’s game.
