Table Cricket

What is it?

Table cricket was developed at Nottingham Trent University. The game uses a table tennis table top or an equivalent sized table. Equipment for the game includes side panels with sliding fielders, a ball launcher (ramp) using a plastic ball and a small wooden bat (cricket bat shaped). The game aims to simulate a game of cricket between two teams of up to six players at a table top level.

Table cricket is one of the Games included in the Youth Sports Trust SportSability programme and is included with equipment and cards in the TOPS SportSability bag – an element of the Active Schools Programme.

Ideas/Aims

Table cricket is designed for disabled and able-bodied participants – the table height should enable access by wheel-chair participants. For the able performer the adapted tasks and skills will appear fairly easy, but whatever the ability of the participant, an ability to play with good skills and control,  and to do so with consistency are fundamental elements of this game’s philosophy and its conduct. Participants should :

·      Have a sound knowledge of the skills, conduct and rules of Table Cricket.

·      Participate in the activity within a school or centre’s recreation programme or within an appropriate club.

·      Attain a reasonable level of proficiency in the game and its conduct as a player and as an official controlling the game.

·      Show skills and an improvement in your standard of participation.

·      Compete effectively in table cricket games/matches.

Review/Assessment

Participants should demonstrate to their assessor their knowledge of the rules of the activity and their skills in it.
