Tennis

What is it?
A game in which two or four players strike a ball with rackets over a net. Tennis can be played on all surfaces inside and out, by all ages and throughout the year. The sport demands physical, mental, technical and tactical skills.

Safety Message
Racket size, pressure of ball and size of court should vary depending on the size and age of the individual. Care should always be taken to play on dry surfaces, with adequate space, appropriate equipment and with enough time for rest.

Review/Assessment
Tennis is a fun and interesting way to improve aerobic and anaerobic fitness. The sport improves strength, agility, flexibility, speed and balance with time, and so the assessor should see evidence of all of these. This activity demands good hand/eye co-ordination, and so this should also be assessed, in addition to progress made over the required period.
