Trampolining

 

What is it?

 

Trampolining is closely allied to gymnastics and will involve participants in exciting and challenging rebounding and flight activity. The sport of trampolining will challenge each individual relative to his or her physical and intellectual ability whether able-bodied or disabled.

 

Safety message

 

Trampolining can produce serious accidents and each LEA will formulate its own regulations relating to this activity and the use of rebound equipment in general. The instructor must have relevant training and experience in the preparation for, delivery and conduct of this activity. Possession of a current and appropriate National Governing Body Award will be a requirement for most Education Authorities and Operating Authorities, and the participation in this activity should be in the context of a structured and individually focused training programme over 8 – 10 weeks as a minimum.

 

Ideas/Aims

 

·      Receive adequate training in the safe use of equipment including how to work with others to set up and set down the trampoline.

·      Have a sound knowledge of how to prepare for and recovery from this vigorous activity

·      Attain a reasonable level of proficiency in the basic skills of the sport in order to participate in a recreative and/or competitive context.

·      Participate in appropriate club or class activity/ competitions including the ability to complete agreed activity routines relative to age, ability and experience.

·      Learn the importance of correct mounting and dismounting procedures and understand the nature and need for training as a spotter, and its importance in a trampoline session.

·      Show skills and an improvement in performance standard in the activity.

·      Develop an appreciation of the quality of a performance routine and how it is judged.

·      Gain an appropriate proficiency award whenever appropriate.

 

Review/Assessment

 

Participants should demonstrate to the assessor their knowledge of the rules and the conduct of the activity, and their skills in it. If they have entered competitions, the outcomes of these should be discussed.
